A recent avalanche, a snow slide observed in a valley, a slab that has broken loose on a slope you’re planning to ski… This information is invaluable, but often hard to come by. To take things a step further, Whympr is upgrading its reporting feature.
A direct connection to Data-Avalanche.org
You can now report an avalanche in Whympr so that all our users can see it. Your report is then also sent to Data-Avalanche.org, the leading database for avalanche records.
After verification and moderation, their team may publish your report in their database. And vice versa: data from Data-Avalanche remains visible in Whympr.
The information thus flows in both directions.
What is Data-Avalanche.org?
Data-Avalanche.org is a leading collaborative platform dedicated to avalanche reporting. It collects, verifies, and organizes field observations from outdoor enthusiasts, mountain professionals, and specialized organizations.
The goal is to build a reliable, open database to better understand avalanche phenomena, analyze snow conditions, and improve risk prevention. Each report thus contributes to a more accurate collective understanding of the mountains.
The power of the community, working for the benefit of all
This initiative is based on a simple idea: increasing the number of observation sources to better understand the terrain.
Every report counts, whether it’s a small snow slide spotted during a trip, a larger avalanche observed from a distance, or an unstable area identified.
By sharing this information, you help other outdoor enthusiasts better assess conditions, contribute to a better understanding of avalanche risk, and help build a national database.
Reporting an avalanche has never been easier
You can now report and notify the community directly from the field in less than two minutes. Just like with other reports, it only takes a few clicks to share an observation:
1 add a report from the map
2 select “avalanche”
3 provide relevant information and, ideally, include a photo
4 confirm
Your report is now active and will immediately benefit the entire community

A community that makes a difference
This new feature marks an important milestone: Whympr is no longer just a tool for viewing information but is becoming an active participant in its dissemination
By connecting the field community to a reference database like Data-Avalanche.org, each user helps to improve documentation of the mountains and thus enables better risk prediction.

The Best-Informed Outdoor Community, Together
Conditions in the mountains can change quickly. The more reports we receive, the more useful they become.
With this new feature, every outing can help improve safety for everyone.
So the next time you see an avalanche, take a few seconds to report it. Your report could make all the difference.
