When you’re planning a hike, a trail run, a mountain biking outing, or a backcountry skiing day, you probably check maps (3D or not), routes, or GPX tracks. But one crucial piece of information is sometimes missing: what’s REALLY happening on the ground.
A tree might have fallen on your favorite trail after a storm. A section could be slippery after rain. A hunting area might be active. Or a herd with guard dogs could be on your route.
That’s why Whympr created the reporting feature: to let you share what you observe on the ground… and see in return what other outdoor enthusiasts have reported.
Read on in this article—and as a bonus, there’s a short video showing you how to find this feature in the app.

Share your observations with the community
With the reporting feature, you can inform other outdoor enthusiasts about what you encounter in just a few seconds. This information appears directly on the map and can be viewed by everyone.
For example, you can report:
Animals:
- A herd with guard dogs (protection dogs)
- The presence of wild animals
Human activities:
- Forestry work
- Hunters in the area
- Litter
Obstacles:
- A fallen tree blocking a trail
- Slippery, icy, snowy, or dangerous passages
- Flooded or impassable trails
Mountain hazards:
- A serac
- Rockfall
- A crevasse
- A cornice
- An avalanche

By sharing this information, you help the community get a more realistic and up-to-date view of trail and mountain conditions.
Good to know: the reports stay in the app for 90 days.

Plan your outings with greater peace of mind
Whether you’re hiking, trail running, mountain biking, mountaineering, or backcountry skiing, knowing the conditions on the ground can make all the difference.
The reporting feature allows you to:
- Stay alert on tricky sections
- Anticipate hazards along your route
- Adjust your outing if needed
- Better understand the real conditions encountered on the ground
This information complements topographic maps, GPX tracks, and existing routes by giving you the direct experience of those who came before you.

A powerful tool for the entire outdoor community
The reporting feature is based on a simple idea: the collective intelligence of the outdoor community we love.
Each of us only sees a part of the terrain during our outing, but by sharing your observations, you help build a living source of information about outdoor conditions.
A report takes just a few seconds, yet it can help countless hikers, trail runners, or skiers who will use the same route.
The more the community participates, the more useful the information becomes for everyone.
